Spring Cleaning Your Body

Today’s the first day of spring and your house isn’t the only thing that could use a cleaning. Here’s how to spring clean your body safely, leaving you more energetic and ready for summer!

A little bit of winter weight is natural. Think of our ancestors: food was scarce in the winter months and they didn’t have access to convenient heat like we do. They needed extra fat to store calories and protect them from the cold.

Although times have changed, we’re still supposed to eat more congesting or “building” foods (healthy fats and proteins) for the colder months as well as warm, cooked foods to heat us up internally, such as stews and soups.

Now that the weather is changing, so should our diets. We should be choosing lighter, cooling foods to cleanse our insides and prepare our bodies for the hot days of summer. Read more here

6 Exercises for the Mind

When many hear the term `personal trainers’ they automatically think of physical fitness. But as our tag line (Train Your Mind to Train Your Body) suggests, we believe heavily in a mind component to health. Today we discuss this aspect of wellness and and give you some exercises for your mind!

Many of our clients say that when they start training their body with us, their mind sharpens. You may find you can do more physically just by envisioning it in your mind; accomplish more mentally as some people report faster  thinking; and as an added bonus, you may discover that you have more disciple over all areas of your life, including emotional control.

Imagine: what if you could accept someone’s well-meaning criticism, change your behaviour where you could, forget the rest, NOT take it personally and actually thank someone for being negative because they’ve enriched your life in some way?

What if you could be angry as hell with someone but be able to process that anger in a healthy way and then be able to discuss the matter constructively with the offending person so you can talk about how to avoid it in the future? Read more here

What’s Good About Stress?

Stress has a bad rep, mainly because it’s been linked with so many diseases and illnesses as we learned in “What is Stress Part 1 & 2“. In fact, it’s a necessity. In today’s blog post we find out how stress actually benefits us!

Picture This:

Imagine you’re lying in a field and taking in all the beauty around you. You’re smelling the flowers, listening to the birds chirp, feeling the soft grass cushioning your body and watching the clouds go by…

All of a sudden a huge prehistoric Mastodon comes tearing out of the bush and headed straight for you!

What’s Good About Stress

Without stress, where our body activates the fight or flight response, we’d be still in La-La Land relaxing as that Mastodon flattens us into a pancake. Stress catapults us into action so we can better survive in the world.

Now we won’t find any Mastodon’s in today’s world, but we still encounter situations in our daily lives where our minds tell us that our body must respond through action in order to survive.

Sometimes our perceptions are a bit skewed as to how dangerous the circumstance really is in reality, but nevertheless, stress is what helps us get off our butts to take care of business. Read more here

#1 Tip to Get Fit

If you’ve been fairly sedentary for a long time, you probably dread any kind of exercise. It’s normal but sorry to tell you: your body and mind need it! Here’s a tip that’ll get you excited to get your heart pumpin’.

Once your body gets a taste of regular physical activity, just like junk food but only healthy for you, it begins to crave it. No kidding! So the trick is to start getting active consistently.

But how do you do that when you have absolutely NO motivation to go to the gym or workout at home? Well, you could do what I did and get a personal trainer (read My Adventures with a G Force Trainer Part 1 and 2). Once you invest good money into having someone coach you into what to do and who holds you accountable, it starts the ball rolling.

Now that’s a good tip, but it’s not the #1 tip to get you fit. Are you ready for it? It’s to make physical activity fun for you! Yes, that’s right, you don’t have to kill yourself to get in shape. Isn’t that great to hear?

Especially when you’re starting out from a sedentary lifestyle, the most important goal for you is to make physical activity a habit. How are you going to continue doing something when it causes you pain? That’s inhuman. It’s natural for us to move towards pleasure and steer clear from pain. Read more here
