Summer is NOT Over (and Neither is Your Program)
Although the sun is shining and the temperature reached almost 30 degrees Celsius here in Toronto yesterday, everyone’s lamenting, “Summer’s over!” Gidon reminds us the summer is in fact NOT over yet and how being in the now is THE most healthy approach to life – especially when we’re aiming to achieve our health goals.
With the kids back to school and the Halloween candy already on the shelves, it’s easy to get sucked into `autumn living’ before we even reach the official first day of fall on September 22nd.
This is a perfect example of the socio-economic force (brain-washing?) we encounter on a daily basis. The economy is driven by sales, and so marketing is always pushing us towards the next season even before the current one ends. Society doesn’t allow us to easily live in the moment.
Eckhart Tolle in his famous book, The Power of Now, says time is an illusion. The now is the most precious thing there is because it’s the only thing. Life is now, he says. Why?
The eternal present is the space within which your whole life unfolds, the one factor that remains constant… There was never a time when your life was not now, nor will there ever be…
What you think of as the past is a memory trace, stored in the mind, of a former Now. When you remember the past, you reactivate a memory trace – and you do so now. The future is an imagined Now, a projection of the mind. When the future comes, it comes as the Now. When you think about the future, you do it now. Past and future obviously have no reality of their own. Just as the moon has no light of its own, but can only reflect the light of the sun, so are past and future only pale reflections of the light, power, and reality of the eternal present. Their reality is “borrowed” from the Now.
We have been brought up to value time. If we didn’t, how would we function in this world? Many of us get paid by the hour, we only have a certain amount of personal time to enjoy all the things we love, we time our workouts, we set goals on a weekly, monthly, yearly basis, etc.
Well, what if (can we even imagine?) we begin to value the Now over time? How would this show up in our plans and pursuits towards healthier living?
Create a Health Program for You Now
So many of us wait to start a program. How many times have you said, “I’ll lose this winter/holiday weight starting January first when I begin the new year with a brand new health and fitness plan!” Or we wait until spring to start training to get our body ready for the summer?
Riddle us this, Batmen: What would happen if we never stopped getting our bodies ready for the summer?
Most of us treat our body in cycles, like the seasons. The rise in popularity for the cleansing/detoxing craze is not surprising – it makes total sense in terms of an appropriate response to our typical, cyclical behaviour…
The holidays throughout the year give us reason to overindulge; but then we feel yuck so we `cleanse.’ At least until the next holiday when we toxify again, creating the need to detoxify… poison, cleanse, harm, heal… we subject our bodies to this endless cycle through our inconsistent choices throughout the year.
Gidon & the G Force Trainers recommend:
Be you. Be in the now. Create a health and fitness program for you NOW. Just be healthy and active now!
Don’t wait until after the next holiday or for the next season to start living a healthier lifestyle. Are you procrastinating (hello, self-sabotage!) or allowing society to rule your behaviour?
Most health professionals agree it takes at least one year to see the most beneficial results of a health and fitness program. With this in mind, if you maintain your “summer-bod” program throughout the next 12 months, you’ll be ahead of the game by summer of 2018!

What are your thoughts on all this? (i.e. socio-economic driving forces, seasonal living, cleansing, etc.)
